Utility Billing

Utility Bills Have A New Remittance Address!

The City of Milton’s utility bills have a new remittance address for mailed payments!  The City recently partnered with Retail Lockbox, a Northwest company and an industry leader in check processing and document management.  As a result, payment vouchers included with utility bills will soon list a Seattle post office box as the City’s new remittance address.

City staff will continue to process payments mailed directly to City Hall as well as payments made in-person at City Hall.  In addition, online payments can continue to be made through Xpress Bill Pay.  More information regarding Xpress Bill Pay can be found in the online utility bill pay section of our website.

By transitioning the processing of mailed payments to Retail Lockbox, the City anticipates several operational efficiencies, including improved document workflow, increased volume processing and quick turnaround, reduced float time, industry leading accuracy, enhanced security, improved customer satisfaction, and streamlined accounts receivable.  Retail Lockbox provides remittance processing and scanning solutions to a broad spectrum of customers including cities, counties, utility billers, and numerous private organizations large and small.

Please contact the Finance Department at (253) 922-8733 if you have any questions or need any additional information.

COVID-19 Emergency Policy & Procedures:

Our Mayor has authorized an Emergency Policy and Procedure for collecting utility bills during Covid-19. We will be working with our customers to establish payment plans. Please return our Utility Customer Payment Agreement or contact Utility Billing Customer Service via email or by calling 253-922-8733.

The Utility Customer Payment Agreement allows for spreading out payments over a longer period of time. If you are in need of utilities assistance, the community organization United Way may be able to connect you with programs in this area to assist in bridging the financial gap. United Way may be reached by dialing the 2-1-1 Help Line. You may also find assistance through the Department of Commerce,  Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or on the Pierce County Human Services website.

The City of Milton serves all residential, commercial and industrial customers with power, water and stormwater within the City limits.  We also serve water to portions of Edgewood and unincorporated Pierce and King Counties which border the City.

Bills are sent out each month, typically mailed on 21st - 23rd of the month. Payments are due on the 15th of the following month; and past due charges of 5% are assessed on the 16th. There is no grace period for late penalties.
